A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight - Season 1
I'm always eager for another good fantasy series. These series are often expensive to produce, so in my opinion, there are far too few of them. And when they do exist, they're often prematurely canceled. A franchise that has been doing incredibly well for years is, of course, Game of Thrones. After the original series, House of the Dragon appeared, and now A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight can be added to that list.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight tells the story of Ser Duncan and his squire Egg. In the six short episodes, we see how the two meet and prepare for a tournament. Then some things happen along the way, and a sort of tournament takes place as well. To put it in vague, spoiler-free terms, of course. And that's essentially the whole season. A fairly simple story.

This is both the strength and the weakness of the series. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight distinguishes itself from the other Game of Thrones series because it is less grandiose and tells a more small-scale story in a world we are already familiar with. That's enjoyable, and there are also fun interconnections that make it extra enjoyable for a fan to watch. However, the series and the story itself are not super interesting so far. And I think the series wouldn't have stood on its own if it weren't a Game of Thrones spin-off. The material would have been too thin.
Furthermore, the series is well put together. The sets are beautiful, the acting is good, and the budget is ample. You can see that in the quality of everything. I have no strong criticisms of the series; it's mainly that it's not very engaging. If I hadn't binged the series all at once, I probably would have struggled to finish watching it.
The creators certainly believe in the series. Even before the first episode aired, the second season was already announced. I will watch that season too. It's entertaining, after all. But also unnecessary. If you've never seen anything from Game of Thrones, I think this series has little to offer you.
A decent 7.0. But if you've never seen anything from Game of Thrones, I think this series has little to offer you.
