It’s highly likely that Adolescence will continue to climb the “most popular” chart, given that numbers 7 and 8 (The Night Agent season 1 and miniseries Fool Me Once, respectively) are both around 98 million views.
By this time next week, Adolescence will likely have surpassed both titles and may even climb even higher. The third through sixth spots on the chart are all around 100 million viewers, which is perfectly within reach for Adolescence, given that it has 72 days left in its premiere window to rack up those viewers.
The rest of Netflix's Top 10 Most Popular TV Shows of All Time includes: Bridgerton season three (#6), The Queen's Gambit (#5), Bridgerton season 1 (#4), Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (#3), Stranger Things season four (#2), and Wednesday season 1 (#1).
According to Netflix, Adolescence is a hit around the world, ranking in the weekly Top 10 in all 93 countries where the chart is available.
Shonda Rhimes’ The Residence came in second on the weekly English TV chart, with 8.8 million views in its first full week on the streamer. While that’s a bit of a boost from its premiere weekend, it’s still a bit of a disappointing performance for the whodunit. It’s unclear whether this performance will result in a Netflix renewal.
In addition, the production is of a high standard. Directed by Philip Barantini and with strong performances, including by Stephen Graham, the series is praised as a “captivating rollercoaster of emotions” and a “cinematic work of art”.
