The final season of After Life delivers a fantastic end to a beautiful, humorous series. Despite that beautiful and emotional ending, After Life does not quite deliver the quality it had before. This is partly because the success formula has undergone a number of changes. The great loss of prostitute Roxy is one of them. She is still mentioned by the eccentric postman who has a relationship with her, but Roxy is no longer in the picture. That's very unfortunate and strange, because she had such a big influence on the dejected Tony. In addition, some new types are not of the level that previously caused a furor at After Life.
The depressing story of Tony remains central, of course. His relationship with Emma, the sister who cared for his father, remains amicable. Emma needs more, but Tony still wallows in the loss of his wife. There is no room in his heart for another. It causes Tony to constantly disappoint Emma. When Emma runs into a friend from the past, the relationship with Tony threatens to become even more complex.
The ending fits perfectly. It is comforting and sad at the same time.
The humor in After Life this time comes mainly from the people around Tony. There is a new female colleague who is looking for accommodation. When Tony manages to arrange this, however, she gets a new and intrusive problem. Brother-in-law Matt still wants to prove himself to Tony. This culminates in a competition where both try out different sports. However, the outcome is not surprising. Regular bench seat at the cemetery Anne has a relationship that satisfies her. It seems to be a hopeful message to Tony. The question is whether the depressed Tony is ready for that. Colleague Kath is finally looking for a relationship. This results in a number of special encounters.
The third season provides a nicely concluded story. The surprise of the series is now over. Yet the series again provides emotional, but also humorous television. The ending fits perfectly. It is comforting and sad at the same time. With that, the series has an excellent ending. Unfortunately, the third season as a whole isn't quite up to the level of the second season. It's still good enough for a nice eight, though. It characterizes the quality of the three seasons as a whole.
