Eileen Fitzgerald (Swank) is an award-winning investigative reporter and a highly influential New York newspaper reporter. Her reporting methods and her aggressive personality are called into question after a high-profile story explodes in her face and Eileen loses her job. Her former mentor, Stanley Cornik (Perry), approaches her to make a big move and she starts working for an Anchorage newspaper, the Daily Alaskan.

Reluctantly, Eileen teams up with a young local reporter, Roz Friendly (Dove). Together they begin an investigation into the murders of a group of indigenous women. Eileen is on a journey to find personal and professional redemption in a new location, across the country and in a very different world.
The first season of Alaska Daily, which aired on Thursday nights, averaged 0.23 in the 18-49 demographic and 2.84 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback until 3:00 AM). It was one of ABC's lowest-rated scripted series in demo, scoring mediocre in total viewership compared to other series on the network.
The series nearly doubled its ratings in the live+7 day ratings, but apparently that wasn't good enough for a second season renewal. The eleven-episode first season ended on March 30.
