FOX cancels ‘Almost Human’

TV network FOX is pulling the plug on ‘Almost Human’. The science-fiction series by producer J.J. Abrams, still in its first year, had little chance of survival.

Almost Human’, featuring Karl Urban and Michael Ealy in the leads as unlikely police partners, had a very promising start last fall. However, ratings fell by a third. Whilst similar to those of ‘The Following’, the series does not profit from international sales like the Kevin Bacon series.

There are only two more weeks to go before the big American TV networks announce their line-up for the next season. This means that, little by little, cancellations and renewals are being announced. Fox already went against normal procedures by giving ‘Sleepy Hollow’ an early renewal earlier this year and by starting production on several new series.

‘Bones’, ‘Brooklyn-Nine-Nine’, ‘The Following’, ‘Glee’, ‘The Mindy Project’ and ‘New Girl’ have already been renewed for next year. Though they still need to be officially green-lighted, pilots ‘Gotham’, ‘The Red Band Society’ and ‘Empire’ have already received assurances. This limits the chances of existing shows with low ratings like ‘Almost Human’. With only limited options, the series didn’t stand a chance.
