Altered Carbon is based on the cyberpunk novel by Richard K. Morgan and takes place several hundred years in the future. Human consciousness can be downloaded into new bodies and people can - if they have enough money - live almost infinitely. In the series you follow an ex-soldier whose consciousness is downloaded into the body of a police officer, who is then given the task to expose a conspiracy. We see images of what is possible in the world in which the series takes place. The series apparently costs six to seven million dollars per episode.
In the second season, Altered Carbon continues to delve into the themes of identity, mortality and human soul over longer periods and different worlds in the universe. This time, Takeshi Kovacs ends up in his search for his old love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry) on his home planet Harlan’s World. He is put on a murder case, where finding Quellcrist also appears essential for his investigation. Takeshi Kovacs was mostly played by Joel Kinnaman last season, but this season Anthony Mackie will take over the role.
The second season of Altered Carbon will appear on Netflix on 27 February, as was revealed on Twitter.
