American Born Chinese is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang. It is the story of Jin Wang, an average teenager who is dragged into a battle between Chinese mythological gods by a new foreign student at school.
The cast includes Michelle Yeoh, who just won an Oscar for Best Actress for the feature film Everything Everywhere All at Once and Key Huy Quan, who will soon appear in the second season of Marvel's Loki.
Other cast members also include Ben Wang (MacGyver (2016)), Yeo Yann Yann (Modern Love: Mumbai), Chin Han (Marco Polo), Daniel Wu (Into the Badlands), former Taekwondo champion Jimmy Liu and Sydney Taylor (Nashville ).
Stephanie Hsu (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) guest stars in the series, which kicks off Wednesday, May 24.
Kelvin Yu (Bob's Burgers) serves as executive producer and showrunner. Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) will direct and also serve as an executive producer.
