Unfortunately, due to corona, we had to wait a little longer for the tenth season of American Horror Story (AHS), but in the meantime we were made happy with the spin-off from the makers of the AHS series. I started watching American Horror Stories because I already follow American Horror Story (AHS) and came across this new series on Disney+. I didn't know it was an AHS spin-off at first, but I soon found out after the first episode.
Each episode in the series tells a different story. For example, in the first two episodes, you go back to the well-known 'murder house' that you have also seen in previous seasons in AHS. In the third episode, you see how an illegal film causes bloodthirstiness. In the fourth episode, we see a bunch of boys vlogging in a house and being chased by Santa Claus. We see a devil summoned in the next episode and a search in the woods for a child in the sixth. In the final episode, many stories from the earlier series return as we watch a woman try to create the perfect American Horror Story game. I liked that each episode had a different horror story. Not all episodes have a rounded or happy ending, but that fits this genre just fine. The episodes are also short and easy to watch.
We see several actors who can also be seen in the AHS. Matt Bomer, Noami Grossman, John Carroll Lynch, Billie Lourd and Cody Fern, among others, play in an episode. We also see many new names: Sierra McCormick (Jessie), Aaron Tveit (The Code (2014)), Ronen Rubenstein (9-1-1: Lone Star) and Kevin McHale (Glee).
What was missing in the series were the scares and the connection you have with the characters in the series. Because you only watch a short story of a maximum of 50 minutes, you don't feel very connected to the characters from the episode. There was also a lack of tension. Now I'm used to a lot, because I watch a lot of horror, but I thought that some episodes were a bit boring in the build-up.
Still, it was fun to watch and I'm now eagerly anticipating the next season of AHS. I give the series a 7.
