Netflix reveals premiere date and teaser for Amsterdam Empire with Famke Janssen

Netflix will soon release a new Dutch crime drama series: Amsterdam Empire, starring Famke Janssen and Jacob Derwig.

Amsterdam Empire centers around Betty (Famke Janssen), a former pop diva seeking revenge against her husband Jack van Doorn (Jacob Derwig), the founder of the coffee shop empire Jackal.

When Jack's affair with a well-known journalist comes to light, Betty decides to exploit his greatest weakness: her knowledge of his secrets. Determined to take everything from him, she becomes his most dangerous enemy.

The series is described as “an extravagant crime drama full of glamour and grit at the heart of Amsterdam's cannabis scene.”

The series consists of seven episodes and is created by Nico Moolenaar, Bart Uytdenhouwen, and Piet Matthys, known for Netflix hits Undercover and Ferry: The Series. Directed by Jonas Govaerts and Max Porcelijn, Famke Janssen also serves as an executive producer, adding extra weight to her first Dutch role.

In addition to Janssen and Derwig, the cast includes Elise Schaap as Marjolein Hofman, Jade Olieberg as Katja van Doorn, Jesse Mensah as Patrick van Doorn, and Yannick van de Velde as Erik Ketels. Other cast members include Romana Vrede, Victor Löw (as Bolle), Raymond Thiry, and Chris Nietvelt.

Amsterdam Empire was officially announced in early 2025 during Next on Netflix and will be fully available on Thursday, October 30, 2025, on Netflix.
