This series is one big ego trip from Graham Hancock. He is almost constantly on screen and during interviews you see him more than the person he is interviewing. In my opinion, this brings the series down quite a bit. Especially because he makes it very clear that there is only one who sees the truth and that is him. And yet he has no scientific background, but is a journalist. This in itself does not have to be a bad thing, a series like Ancient Aliens is not really scientifically based, but he almost constantly shouts that according to him, all archaeologists are completely wrong. That gets a bit tiring at a certain point. His theory is that a forgotten advanced civilization existed during the last ice age and that it was destroyed by great floods that inundated much of the land as the ice melted. And the few survivors of this civilization have helped the other surviving hunter/gatherers relearn all kinds of knowledge and skills. An interesting theory in itself. The aliens from Ancient Aliens are replaced here by an ancient civilization. Furthermore, the theories are quite similar. The problem is that he doesn't show anything that can actually prove this. And he also does not allow anyone to speak who dares not to endorse his theory. In particular, his complete lack of self-reflection and his clear frustration that he is not taken completely seriously makes this a difficult series to get through. The fact that I finished it is more because once I started something, I also want to finish it. And 8 episodes of half an hour is still doable :-)
