The wait is finally over. After a three year hiatus, the renowned comedy series Atlanta from Donald Glover will return with its third season in March 2022. It'll start with a release of two episodes. The ten-episode long third season will start its run at FX on the 24th of March in 2022. The day after that, it will be available to stream on Hulu.
“We are thrilled to have Atlanta back with a new season on March 24th. Once again, Donald Glover, the producers and stellar cast have delivered another signature season synonymous with the excellence that makes Atlanta so great," Eric Schrier, President of FX Entertainment, said in a statement.
The third season will almost take entirely place in Europe. There, Earn (Donald Glover), Alfred /Paper Boi' (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (LaKeith Stanfield) and Van (Zazie Beetz) find themselves in the middle of a successful European tour. The group tries to navigate themselves through a new environment as outsiders. They are struggling to adapt to the renewed success they have now found.
The third season was ordered back in June 2018. It was originally delayed due to Donald Glover's busy work schedule. The filming process was further delayed due to the pandemic, which was back in March 2020. Glover & Co then decided to shoot the third and fourth season back-to-back. Last Summer, production on the third season concluded. Immediately after that, production on the fourth season began. The fourth season will go back to Atlanta.
The FX chairman (John Landgraf) also said that all the scripts for Season 4 have been written, and that he "adores" both upcoming seasons.
The most recent season of 2018 received fourteen Emmy nominations, most of all comedy series. During the first two seasons, Atlanta won five Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes, two AFI Awards, Peabody, PGA, WGA, TCA, NAACP and Critics' Choice Awards.
