Atypical - Season 2

Last year, the first season of Atypical was made available on Netflix. Considering that the show is about someone with autism and I happen to have autism myself, I was naturally interested. I flew through the first season and I was pleased to find out that there was going to be a second. Are you curious about my opinion regarding the second season? Keep on reading!

In the first season of Atypical we followed Sam, an 18-year-old autistic high school student who finds it very difficult to understand the world surrounding him, girls in particular. Nonetheless, he really wants to have a girlfriend and with the help of his friend Zahid, his sister Casey and his father Doug he starts dating. His overly protective mother, Elsa, doesn't like it. She's afraid he'll end up getting hurt.

The second season continues where the first ended. Sam is still struggling with girls and his mom still tries to protect him from life. In the first season we saw how Sam managed to get a girlfriend, only to be dumped in the final episode. Sam is now in his senior year and he has to be prepped for university. Elsa cheated on Doug and no longer lives at home, while his sister has already gone to university and is now trying to build up a new life there.

Atypical is filled with fun characters. Sam says pretty much everything he thinks, without feeling any shame whatsoever. Due to this, he finds it difficult to socialize, but that's recognizable. His love for penguins is adorable and it's typically Sam. His sister is a great character as it is easy to tell what she finds difficult about dealing with her brother. She's funny and interesting in her own way. The combination of Sam and an overly protective mom is bound to cause problems. Briefly put, I find all of the characters incredibly intriguing.

The show is filled with various clichés and thus you shouldn't take it too seriously. Still, the show, thanks to its lightheartedness, is very easy to watch. I really do hope that there is going to be a third season as I have come to love the characters and I'm really curious about Sam and his new school.

In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
