The first season of Ballard consisted of ten episodes and was well received: the series scored 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and generated 2.5 billion viewing minutes in the US in July. The series was in the Nielsen Top 10 for streaming originals for several weeks, peaking at number 4 in the week of July 21 (619 million minutes watched).
The chance of renewal was further increased when the production received a tax credit of nearly 15 million dollars from the California Film Commission in August.
The series is based on the work of Michael Connelly and follows detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q), who leads an underfunded cold case division of the LAPD. Together with a small volunteer team and retired Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), she tackles forgotten cases, including a serial killer and an unknown murder case, and uncovers a dangerous conspiracy within the force.
In addition to Maggie Q and Titus Welliver, the cast includes Courtney Taylor, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, and John Carroll Lynch.

I hope they'll pick up Bosch's last case because, in my opinion, it wasn't concluded properly. Otherwise, Titus only guest-starred twice in this series and wasn't a main character, as the last sentence suggests.
