Tyler Perry adds to his collection of first-look similarities. Perry has signed a first-look series deal with Netflix, complementing his deal with the streamer for films. As part of the new deal, the streamer has ordered the drama series Beauty in Black, which was the first to be greenlit under the deal.
This is in addition to Perry's deal with BET for television, which reportedly continues with more than ten series with the company. In 2017, Perry signed a major long-term agreement with the company then called Viacom.
Beauty in Black is a sixteen-episode drama series written, directed and produced by Perry (pictured). It follows two women with different lives - Kimmie struggling to make ends meet after her mother kicked her out and Mallory running a successful business - who become entangled in each other's lives.
Angi Bones and Tony Strickland will also produce for Tyler Perry Studios.
In October, Perry signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to write, direct and produce feature films for the streamer. That followed his deal with Amazon Studios to write four films for Prime Video.
Perry's upcoming films with Netflix include Six Triple Eight starring Kerry Washington and Mea Culpa starring Kelly Rowland. His previous films with Netflix include A Jazzman's Blues, A Madea Homecoming and the thriller A Fall from Grace.
Perry's BET projects include Sistas, which is in its seventh season, Tyler Perry's The Oval, which is in its fifth season, and Tyler Perry's Ruthless, which is in season four. He also has Tyler Perry's Young Dylan on Nickelodeon.
