A brand new trailer for Berlin reveals brand new characters merging with recurring roles from La Casa de Papel for the upcoming Netflix spin-off series. The new trailer for the upcoming series Berlin shows a first look at some familiar characters. Set in the same universe as La Casa de Papel, Berlin takes its name from the titular character who gathers a gang of robbers in Paris to complete one of the most impressive bank heists of all time.
In the trailer, Berlin meets his thief friends and travels through the catacombs of Paris. The trailer is full of action scenes and a touch of romance.
La Casa de Papel, also known as Money Heist, started in 2017 and is one of the most popular international shows on Netflix to date. The Spanish-language crime series ran for five seasons and featured a wayward gang of robbers as they attempted to commit the best crime in Spanish history.
Money Heist introduced international audiences to a number of notable characters, including El Profesor, Raquel Murillo, Berlin and Rio in the ensemble piece.
Two of these characters return to the La Casa de Papel universe for Berlin: Berlin (Pedro Alonso) and Raquel Murillo (Itziar Ituño). These veterans join a new team, featuring characters such as Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri), Keila (Michelle Jenner), Cameron (Begoña Vargas) and Roi (Julio Peña). La Casa de Papel creator Esther Martínez Lobato returns for Berlin.
By teaming up familiar faces with new faces, Berlin is able to take the characters that viewers of La Casa de Papel have come to love and place them in a new situation. The events of Berlin take place before those of La Casa de Papel, so the spin-off series will act as an origin story of sorts for the titular character, alongside Raquel Murillo. Audiences will soon have the chance to see what kind of thieving tricks Raquel, Berlin and the new gang are up to when Berlin hits Netflix at the end of this year.
The first season of Berlin will be released on Netflix on Friday, December 29.
