A very strong end to one of the better series (of recent years). The metamorphosis is complete and Saul Goodman's story is complete. Unfortunately, Better Call Saul, one of the better series of recent years, has come to an end. The second part of season six provides a clear destination for Jimmy McGill's (Bob Odenkirk) journey in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. And the ending was anything but predictable in my opinion.
The second part of season six consists of six episodes, each lasting about an hour. In the final episodes, there is a clear split into two different storylines. One of the storylines sees the final metamorphosis into Saul Goodman prior to and early in Breaking Bad. The other storyline takes place after Breaking Bad in which Jimmy has had to embrace yet another new alter ego as he is a fugitive. The separation is clearly shown as everything after Breaking Bad is shown in black and white. Very original in my opinion as black and white is mostly used for flashbacks.
As we have come to expect from Better Call Saul, the series is original, full of suspense, strong dialogue, and excellent acting. In addition, in the final phase of the series, we see the strength of the main character at several moments: a word artist with enormous persuasive power. But we also clearly see that Jimmy cannot leave his true nature behind, something that is of course his downfall.
The ending makes the link between the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul series definitive. This is partly due to the guest roles of several Breaking Bad characters. As announced, Walter White (Bryan Cranston, Your Honor) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul, Westworld) return. In addition, the battle between Lola Salamanca (Tony Dalton, Marvel's Hawkeye) and Gustavo Fring (Giancarlo Esposito, The Mandalorian) ends. For the climax of Gustavo Fring's story, you'll have to watch Breaking Bad, and believe me, it's definitely worth it.
original, full of suspense, strong dialogues and excellent acting performances
In addition, the storyline that takes place after Breaking Bad (introduced at the beginning of Better Call Saul) is finally being completed. That storyline started about seven years ago and actually only gets full focus in the last episodes of the series. The viewer, therefore, had to be patient to come to the conclusion. But the wait was well worth it in my opinion. They were perhaps the strongest episodes of the series. The critics have already praised the first part of this season, which has won several Emmy nominations. I am very curious how the second part will be received.
The second part of season six of Better Call Saul, like the previous seasons, is very strong and makes for a satisfying and well-rounded ending. With that, one of the better series of recent years has come to an end. And that end was of a high level. The acting performances were strong, there was suspense and the series was very original. Hopefully, the creators will come up with a new masterpiece soon.
Based on the above, I give the second part of season six of Better Call Saul a well-deserved 9.5.
