If you enjoy watching series such as The Bay (2019), Marcella and Line of Duty, Bloodlines is a series for you. With James Nesbitt in the lead, Bloodlands is a cat-and-mouse thriller with landscapes of Northern Ireland in the background. Jed Mercurio serves as the executive producer. He was also the creator of Line of Duty.
Bloodlands is a new thriller that follows DCI Tom Brannick. He tries to find the hitman who is known as Goliath after he found a potential suicide note. He connects the finding to a cold case that is also quite personal to him. James Nesbitt (The Missing) says that the viewer should be prepared to feel. “It is a cat-and-mouse thriller but the fact that it has the legacy of the Troubles brings an added depth to it," Nesbitt explains (photo).
"It’s also a story about a father and daughter, and of loss, so there are real human stories attached to it. At its key it’s really about relationships, I think it’s something that audiences will invest in, invest in the characters. But also, it is a classic Jed Mercurio thriller, where you’re not really sure what’s going on, with many different stories interwoven into it. I think it will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.”
Executive producer Mercurio adds: “Bloodlands is a contemporary thriller series with one foot in Northern Ireland's emotive past. The present-day hunt for a suspect opens up the cold case of a legendary serial killer, codenamed Goliath, who evaded capture during the Troubles.
In addition to being a gripping police thriller, Bloodlands explores the dilemma of whether seeking justice for Goliath's long-dead victims should jeopardise the fragile and hard-won peace of present-day Northern Ireland.”
It is not yet known when Bloodlands is set to premiere.
