
The idea for the revival arose after The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019, when Bialik reconnected with original creator Don Reo. He wrote a script in one sitting that brought the characters back to life after thirty years, in a story that Bialik described as "beautiful" and relatable.
Due to her busy schedule with the game show Jeopardy! and the sitcom Call Me Kat, the project was temporarily postponed, but they later brought it back to Disney's attention, which initially seemed enthusiastic.
Despite an earlier sale of the concept, they were told during a second attempt that it could not be developed further. A request to acquire the rights was also rejected, as Disney wanted to retain the option of producing a reboot.
Bialik stated that this project was her dream role and that its failure has diminished her motivation for new acting roles. She criticized the current state of the entertainment industry, with its constant leadership changes, mergers, and long delays in decisions. While she acknowledges that perhaps no one wants a Blossom reboot, she believes Disney made the wrong choice.
According to sources, Disney's ABC Signature (now 20th Television) explored a reboot last year, but it never materialized. Bialik expressed hope in 2023 that a limited reinterpretation of the series—less sitcom, more drama—would be possible after the strikes.
Blossom, which ran for five seasons on NBC between 1991 and 1995, centered on a young girl growing up in a household with her single father and two older brothers, and was known as innovative in an era dominated by boys.
