The story takes place in 1990, in the harsh, unpredictable world of the U.S. Marine Corps, a time when homosexuality was illegal in the military. The series follows Cameron Cope (Heizer), a searching, closeted young man, and his heterosexual best friend, Ray McAffey (played by Liam Oh).
Along with a diverse group of recruits, they undergo the grueling boot camp training, facing not only physical challenges but also emotional barriers and societal prejudices. In this environment, designed to push them to their limits, they discover their true selves and forge unexpected friendships.
Boots has a remarkable production history: the series was greenlit in May 2023, began filming in the summer of 2023, but was halted after one week due to the strikes. Production didn't resume until March 2024 and wrapped in August 2024, three months before the U.S. presidential election.
Yet, it took over a year for Boots to finally receive a premiere date. This delay appears to be partly due to shifting political and social views on the series' subject matter.
Besides Miles Heizer and Liam Oh, the cast includes Max Parker, Vera Farmiga, Cedrick Cooper, Ana Ayora, Angus O'Brien, Dominic Goodman, Kieron Moore, Nicholas Logan, Rico Paris, and Blake Burt.
Boots premieres on Netflix on Thursday, October 9th, with all ten episodes available. Check out more first-look photos below.
