Bridgerton - Season 3

After more than two years of waiting, the third season of Bridgerton finally arrived. The series, a Netflix and Shondaland co-production, probably needs no introduction.
In many ways, the third season of Bridgerton is a repetition. Once again we see destined lovers, looks full of desire, miscommunication and perfectly lit sex scenes. And yet there is never a dull moment.

In the world of Bridgerton everything revolves around one thing: marriage. The debuting ladies are looking for the perfect man every year, while the mysterious gossip aunt Lady Whistledown stirs things up with her juicy stories.

This season focuses on eternal wallflower Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), who is looking for a partner. She gets help from her good friend Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), with whom she has been secretly in love for years. To emphasize her development, Penelope has been given a different appearance, but this does not entirely match the times. By the end of the season, her hair flows in long waves that are more reminiscent of the pin-up style of the '50s than the updos of the Regency era.

Colin and Penelope feel more like the supporting characters we've seen in the earlier seasons, despite their perceived central roles. The pacing and choices in the story don't allow viewers to really connect with their development as a couple.

This season is overloaded with subplots

There are also other storylines. Half the Bridgerton family seems to be looking for love: Lady Violet falls for a man (I won't say who), Francesca makes her debut, and Benedict Bridgerton... that's especially juicy. And let's not forget Queen Charlotte's greatest wish: to unmask Lady Whistledown's true identity.

All in all, there are too many storylines for eight episodes. Hopefully season four will shorten the list of stories and focus more on the central couple.

As for the music, it remains true to the earlier seasons. It is a unique mix of modern pop songs and classical arrangements, often performed by a string quartet. This combination creates an interesting contradiction between the historical setting and contemporary music, keeping the series with a fresh and recognizable vibe.

With a new mix of intrigue, love and musical flair, Bridgerton continues to enchant us and we can't wait for what the next season has in store. This certainly won't last another two years.

Karzal
Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. The original articles, columns and reviews were actually written by others. During the week Mike can be found at IKEA, where he is a national systems specialist and occasionally also in the classroom to teach an English lesson. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
