Bellamy Young, known for her role as President Mellie Grant on Scandal, joins the second season of NBC's drama series Brilliant Minds as a recurring cast member. Inspired by the life and work of world-renowned neurologist and author Oliver Sacks, Brilliant Minds follows Dr. Oliver Wolf, played by Zachary Quinto, a charismatic, unorthodox neurologist, and his team of young doctors-in-training. Together, they explore the mysteries of the human brain while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
Bellamy Young (pictured) plays Dr. Amelia Frederick, clinical director of the long-term psychiatric hospital Hudson Oaks. Despite her years of experience in the often-flawed mental health system, Amelia is not cynical, but passionate about destigmatizing long-term residential care. Her idealism and drive frequently bring her into conflict with Quinto's Dr. Wolf, making her a powerful counterpoint in the upcoming season.
In addition to Young, Brian Altemus and John Clarence Stewart have been added as new regular cast members for season two, premiering in September. The existing cast includes Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Teddy Sears, and Donna Murphy.
Bellamy Young brings extensive experience to the series. She won a Critics’ Choice Television Award for her work on ABC's Scandal and recently starred in Hulu's The Other Black Girl. Originally from the theatre – she began her career on Broadway in the musical The Life – Young has built a versatile career with roles in series such as Fox’s Prodigal Son and CBS’s Criminal Minds, and films such as A Wrinkle in Time and Mission: Impossible III.
