Chase Sui Wonders to star in Hulu's Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot

Chase Sui Wonders will guest star in Hulu's Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.
Chase Sui Wonders will play Shirley, presumably a vampire, in the pilot episode of the Buffy reboot. Oscar winner Chloé Zhao will direct the pilot. This is a one-time guest appearance for Wonders.

The Buffy project reunites Wonders and Sarah Michelle Gellar, who previously collaborated on the film reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Wonders joins this production following her success in the Apple TV+ series The Studio, which received an impressive 23 Emmy nominations. She has also previously starred in series such as Bupkis (Peacock), City on Fire (Apple TV+), and Generation (HBO Max).

The new Slayer in the reboot will be played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Her character, described as introverted in the casting notes, is a high school student following in the footsteps of Gellar's iconic Buffy Summers.

Regarding the casting, Sarah Michelle Gellar said: "From the moment I saw Ryan's audition, I knew there was only one girl I wanted by my side. Such emotional intelligence and talent at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile brightens even the darkest room."

I'm looking forward to it with more than interest and curiosity, wondering whether this reboot will click.

I'll definitely watch the pilot, but I'm a bit less enthusiastic. This is yet another reboot, requel, or whatever you want to call it, of a series I used to consider one of my favorites. I'm always worried it won't capture the atmosphere of the old series.

This new series might be geared more towards today's younger audience, but on the other hand, there are a lot of nods to the old series, for example, by hiring SMG, and that naturally raises the expectations of older fans as well. And I sincerely hope those expectations are met.

What I find strange is that the series is still called Buffy the Vampire Slayer, even though there is a new slayer?
