Brandon Larracuente is officially moving from On Call to Chicago Fire, where he will appear as a series regular in the fourteenth season of the long-running NBC drama series. Larracuente’s move fits a familiar pattern in Dick Wolf’s television universe, where actors often move from one series to another when a show is canceled or revived. Larracuente’s casting follows Prime Video’s cancellation of On Call in May after renewal negotiations broke down — despite interest in a potential two-season renewal.
In Chicago Fire, Larracuente (photo) will play an important role in Firehouse 51, which lost two permanent team members after the thirteenth season: Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett. His arrival will help to restore balance to the team and also bring new energy to the series.
This strategy, in which actors rotate within the Wolf Entertainment series, has been successfully applied before. For example, Jesse Lee Soffer moved from Chicago PD to FBI: International and Dylan McDermott made the switch from Law & Order: Organized Crime to FBI: Most Wanted.
Larracuente previously became known for his role as Dr. Danny Perez in ABC's The Good Doctor and also played in Bloodline and 13 Reasons Why from Netflix, as well as in Party of Five from Freeform. Although On Call has not yet been definitively concluded and a new broadcast partner for a possible second season is still being sought behind the scenes, that chance is small. However, the end of the first season already provided space for a farewell to Larracuente's character, Officer Alex Diaz, allowing for a smooth transition into the world of Chicago Fire.
