Chicago PD - Season 9 (DVD)
A wonderfully exciting season from Chicago PD. The series convinces year after year, but this time it gets a simple DVD release. Already the ninth season of the Chicago PD, another extremely successful part of a franchise for producer Dick Wolf (alongside Law & Order and FBI). Since 2014, we can enjoy the relentless police sergeant Henry “Hank” Voight (Jason Beghe, Californication) who fights crime with unorthodox methods that often (like crime itself) cannot stand the light of day. Despite his shortcomings, as a viewer you still have sympathy for him, Hank cares about his team and is tough on the opponents in one of the most violent cities in America.
His team consists of Detectives Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer, As the World Turns) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos, Revolution), Officers Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger, The 4400), Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins, South Side) and Kim Burges (Marina Squerciati, Gossip Girl) and loyal administrative specialist Sergeant Trudy Platt (Amy Morton, Boss).
This season begins with Kim Burgess fighting for her life after the dramatic end of her kidnapping. Hank Voight and Hailey Upton played a pivotal role in finding Burgess, and thanks to them, Burgess now lies in Chicago Med instead of the graveyard. The price they have to pay for their actions, however, hangs over events for much of the season. That's another wonderful sword of Damocles that the series is so famous for.
The 22 episodes are divided over five discs and run for a total of 882 minutes. The episodes are available in English, French and German spoken versions and have subtitles in those three languages in addition to Dutch. Unfortunately, there are no extras like in previous seasons, for example, crossover episodes with the other Dick Wolf series. With that, this strong season does not get a strong DVD release. However, this edition is a nice way to watch all episodes again.

In addition to the usual crimes that the team throws itself into, another major obstacle emerges in the second half of the season. Los Temidos is a violent gang that plagues the streets of Chicago. Voight decides to let Anna Avalos (Carmela Zumbado, You) infiltrate this gang, but that means great tension and terrible dilemmas for Hank Voight in addition to first-hand information. The question is whether he will find the right answers to these dilemmas or whether he will continue to go his own way. Wonderful situations, lots of tension and personal drama. Another wonderful season ends with an explosive ending.Another wonderful season ends with an explosive ending.
