Citadel season two not until 2026 and spin-offs Citadel: Diana and Citadel: Honey Bunny cancelled

Amazon is not moving forward with the international Citadel spin-offs Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana, which will not return for a second season.
Meanwhile, the upcoming second season of the original Citadel series starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas has been given a season two release date and an official description.

Citadel

“Having successfully traversed India and Italy, storylines from both Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana will be woven into the upcoming second season of the mothership series Citadel,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios. “While these successful and widely enjoyed international chapters will not continue as individual series, Season 2 of Citadel will be our most exhilarating yet. With high-stakes storytelling, new additions to our amazing cast and bold, cinematic ambition, the new season will deepen the emotional journeys of Nadia, Mason and Orlick against the relentless force that is Manticore. We’re excited to share what’s next when Citadel Season 2 premieres globally in Q2 of 2026.”

The cancellation of the two spin-off series is not surprising. While they have performed well in their local markets, Citadel: Diana and Citadel: Honey Bunny have not been global breakthroughs and have been waiting for news of their fate since the launch of their first seasons in September and December respectively.

Furthermore, as reported last month, plans for other potential spin-offs in countries such as Mexico have been put on hold as the focus shifts entirely to finishing season two of the main series.

The Citadel franchise is under pressure following the recent departure of Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios and on whose idea the series was based. It was probably the biggest gamble of its time – an ambitious, expansive and expensive multi-series, multi-country undertaking for which she brought in the Russo brothers’ production company AGBO.

Season two of Citadel is currently in post-production. The series was originally slated for a late 2025 release, with a previous Q1 2026 release. Season two will now debut approximately three years after the first season premiered on April 28, 2023.

Happy with the second season of Citadel, but I fear that it will also be the last. Of the spin-offs I thought Diana was fine, but Honey Bunny a lot less. If they are going to stop, they will hopefully round it off nicely.
