Cobra Kai takes place thirty years after the All Valley Karate tournament from 1984. The story tells the tale of trusted characters from the original movie; Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. Actors Ralph Maccio and Wiliam Zabka came back to portray them once more. The cast further consists of Xolo Maridueña (Parenthood), Courtney Henggeler (Fuller House), Mary Mouser (Freakish), Jacob Bertrand (Kirby Buckets) and Martin Kove (Criminal Minds).
Due to the uncertain future of the YouTube streaming service, producer Sony TV decided to find a new network. After long negotiations, Netflix managed to acquire the rights. The third season will be available on Netflix, exclusively. The first two seasons will remain on YouTube, but will also be available on Netflix.
