Franka Potente has joined the cast of AMC's Dark Winds in a major guest role for season four. Set in 1971 on a remote Navajo Nation outpost near Monument Valley, Dark Winds follows Tribal Police Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) as he finds himself besieged by a series of seemingly unrelated crimes.
As he gets closer to the truth, he uncovers the wounds of his past. He is joined on this journey by his new deputy, Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon). Chee also has old scores to settle from his youth on the reservation. Together, the two men battle the forces of evil, each other, and their own personal demons on their journey to redemption.
The series was renewed for a fourth season ahead of the season three premiere. New episodes are currently airing on Sunday nights at 9:00 p.m.
Details about Potente’s character (pictured) are still under wraps. Potente starred in the critically acclaimed film Lola Rennt . After half a decade of starring in German productions, Potente made the move to Hollywood with her role in the biopic crime film Blow opposite Johnny Depp, and gained wider recognition for her performances in the Bourne franchise opposite Matt Damon.
Most recently, Potente played Talamasca agent Annamieke in the AMC series Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches . She also had a series regular role in the final season of the DC/HBO Max series Titans (2018) and Apple TV+’s Echo 3 , created and directed by Mark Boal. Potente also lends her voice to the Netflix animated series Castlevania: Nocturne . She starred opposite Tom Hardy in the acclaimed FX series Taboo (2017) and opposite Diane Kruger in The Bridge.
Season three of Dark Winds picks up six months after the events of season two and follows Lt. Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee as they investigate the disappearance of two boys, leaving only an abandoned bike and a bloodstained patch of land in their wake. Meanwhile, Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) tries to settle into her new life 500 miles from home with the Border Patrol, only to stumble upon a human and drug smuggling conspiracy with far-reaching implications.
Production on season four of Dark Winds begins this month in Santa Fe, New Mexico and consists of eight one-hour episodes scheduled for 2026.
