A lawyer robs a customer in De Ring. However, there is a recording of the theft that allows that client to blackmail her. Simon, an important client of lawyer Anna Hartogs (Hannah Hoekstra, Diepe Gronden), has lost a ring. Anna finds out about this during a meeting with him. Simon casually says that everything has already been passed on to the insurance company and that is the end of the matter for him. When Simon is called away a little later, Anna notices the ring somewhere in a corner. She puts the ring in her pockets, but doesn't know at that moment that she is getting into a lot of trouble. The theft was filmed.
Shortly afterwards she meets Max, a police officer. It's almost love at first sight. A lunch with Simon a few hours later ensures that the relationship is going to be rocky. Simon presents the surveillance video of Anna stealing the ring. To avoid charges, he demands that Anna sleep with him.
We will have to find out in the coming episodes whether it is a good idea to respond to that demand, just like some other storylines for which the first seeds are planned. We will see how these unfold in the further course of this series and are linked to the main theme, the blackmail following the theft of the ring.
Such a first episode is always an introduction to the characters and in this case also the reason for the exciting events that will follow. I suspect that they will not be immediately frightening and that many bodies will fall out of the closet. But you can be sure that heads will roll. Whether this series will live up to the high expectations will depend on how the makers will evolve their characters and what steps they will take to ultimately come out on top.
In that first introduction we could already notice that the acting was strong and the actors knew how to portray their characters convincingly. The soundtrack also manages to build extra tension. We can therefore conclude that this introduction was successful and we look forward to the continuation of this series.
About the writer, Karzal
Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. The original articles, columns and reviews were actually written by others. During the week Mike can be found at IKEA, where he is a national systems specialist and occasionally also in the classroom to teach an English lesson. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
A good series, but the last part was a bit disappointing, especially the scene where Anna addresses everyone about Patrick and Simon, and the denouement could have been a bit more exciting.
