Luke Hemsworth has joined the cast of the second season of Australian police comedy series Deadloch on Prime Video. The actor is filming in his native Australia and joins leading actors Kate Box, Madeleine Sami, Nina Oyama and Alicia Gardiner in the comedy series, which has been a hit for Amazon's streaming service.
Hemsworth (pictured) plays Jason Wade, creator and protagonist of Jason Wade's Adventures Down Under and the owner of Jason Wade's Land of Crocs and Other Animals wildlife park.
The series follows Dulcie (Box) and Eddie (Sami), a pair of misfit detectives. In the new season they investigate the death of Eddie's former police partner Bushy. When a body is discovered in a remote town, they are thrust into a new sweatier, stickier investigation.
Filming in the crocodile-infested waters of the Northern Territories has been halted and moved to Brisbane studios in Queensland.
“Luke Hemsworth is joining our cast as croc-wrangling Territory icon Jason Wade,” said creators, executive producers and writers Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan. “We’re feeling very happy with ourselves about this because he’s perfect. It’s perfect casting.”
Previously announced new cast members include Steve Bisley, Shari Sebbens, Jean Tong, Genevieve Morris, Byron Coll, Nikki Britton, Anthony J Sharpe, Blake Pavey, Damien Garvey, Ngali Shaw, Bev Killick, Ling Cooper-Tang, Ursula Yovich, Syd Brisbane, Ines English and Lennox Monaghan.
Hemsworth is known for his role as Ashley Stubbs in HBO's Westworld and will soon be seen in Prime Video's The Terminal List: Dark Wolf.
Executive producers for the season are McCartney and MacLennan, along with Kevin Whyte and Tanya Phegan of Guesswork Television. Andy Walker is the producer and the directors are Beck Cole and Gracie Otto.
Guesswork Television, OK Great Productions and Amazon MGM Studios are producing the series. It was funded with the assistance of Screen Territory through the Production Attraction Incentive Program and supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland's Production Attraction Strategy.
The six-part series will launch worldwide, but no start date has yet been set.
