Third season for Departure

Canada's Global Television has announced that Departure has been renewed with its third season. The renewal is rather early as the second season hasn't even been given a premiere date as of yet.

The series premiered for US audiences on Peacock last fall but was already available for Canadian viewers back in 2019. Billed as an event drama, the first season takes place following the disappearance of a passenger plane over the Atlantic Ocean. Aviation investigator Kendra Malley (Archie Panjabi, The Good Wife) is brought in to investigate, and while the world watches, Kendra and her team race to locate the missing aircraft and any possible survivors.

Season 2 of Departure will focus on the aftermath of a deadly crash of a high-speed automated train travelling from Toronto to Chicago, with Kendra once again leading the investigation. Christopher Plummer (The Summit, photo) was supposed to shoot his scenes from his house in Connecticut due to travelling limitations because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He died on the 5th of February in 2021, but he was able to finish shooting the scenes that he was a part of.

Season 3, which will likely air in 2022, will follow the aftermath of a deadly ferry accident.
