Captain Spencer recently welcomed a second Morgan family member to the Miami Metro fold: Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson), who succeeds his father Harry Morgan (Christian Slater) in the business. For the OG Dexter fans, you know that the foul-mouthed Deborah Morgan will eventually join the ranks. But it will take a while before that happens.
Dexter is currently dipping his toes into the industry as an intern, working closely with his new friends Vincent Masuka (Alex Shimizu) and Angel Batista (James Martinez). It's fun to see how the agency Dexter works from as a young man remains his place until he grows up, well, at least until he decides to run away and become a lumberjack.
Captain Spencer means business and even though Dexter's father is well-liked at work, it won't be easy for him. He must find a way to learn his trade and pursue his two passions without getting caught. We know how it ends, now see how it all started.
It's worth mentioning that Gibson, Martinez, and Shimizu are spot on with their nods to the original characters. They are just enough classic movements to give a nod to the future, without looking like pure imitation.
Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can no longer be ignored, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness.
Under the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a code that will help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on the police radar. This presents a special challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensic internship with the Miami Metro Police Department.
Dexter: Original Sin also stars Christina Milian and Reno Wilson.
