The small screen's most lovable serial killer is back in this prequel that explores Morgan Dexter's early days as a serial killer.Dexter was one of the top series in the crime genre that gave viewers an eight-season look into the life of forensic physician Dexter, who, in addition to his work in the medical team of the police, also had his own agenda. Dexter had an irresistible urge to kill people. His father, played here by Christian Slater (Mr. Robot), had discovered this very early on and together they had developed the code whereby Dexter only killed criminals who got away with it. At the end of the eighth season, things got a bit too hot under his feet and Dexter moved north.
After eight years of silence, Dexter reappeared in Dexter: New Blood, in which his son tracks him down and it becomes clear that the young man is possessed by the same urge as his father. Although there was an opening for a sequel, it did not happen initially. In 2025, we expect Dexter: Resurrection, in which the series picks up the story of New Blood and we are Dexter in the present.
For the time being, however, we can warm up with Dexter: Original Sin, in which we see young Dexter commit his first murder ever in the first episode. That was not the plan his stepfather had in mind, but due to circumstances, young Dexter was forced to act on his own. In that first episode, we see how Dexter slowly but surely develops into the person he will become as an adult. His studies, his sister and his colleagues in forensic medicine quickly evoke memories of the original series. Many characters in the cast almost seem like younger versions of their older colleagues from the original Dexter.
The young Dexter is played by Patrick Gibson (Before We Die (UK)). In this first episode he plays Dexter Morgan well. Another striking appearance is Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Sarah Michelle Gellar who leads the forensic service of the police force. People who have seen the original series will also quickly see that the special traits of some characters are present again so that as a fan of the series you almost come home to a familiar environment.

Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
