The series picks up immediately after the events of the 2021 limited series Dexter: New Blood, which saw Dexter Morgan brought back to life after being shot by his son Harrison (Jack Alcott).

The series follows Dexter "as he grapples with his actions and the potential consequences, including the return of his deceased adoptive father Harry (James Remar) and a potential new mission from an underground network."
The series stars David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista from the original Dexter, but also features many newcomers, including Uma Thurman as Charley, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera and Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater.
Guest stars in this debut season include Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian.
Original series showrunner Clyde Phillips (who also helmed Dexter: Original Sin) returns as showrunner, with Hall, Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns executive producing, with Marcos Siega serving as producing director. Monica Raymund will direct four episodes and Siega will direct six.
Production is currently underway in New York, and the series will premiere this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime.
