French series Call My Agent! gets American remake with a sports twist

One of the most popular international scripted formats of the past decade, the French series Call My Agent! (Dix pour cent), is getting an American adaptation at HBO.
HBO is developing a new adaptation of the successful comedy-drama series Call My Agent! (Dix pour cent) from 2015. The project will be written and produced by Sarah Schneider, co-creator and executive producer of The Other Two.

Dix pour cent

The original French series, which ran for four seasons on France 2, focused on a group of talent agents and their complex relationships with their celebrity clients—often real French stars playing themselves.

For the American version, the concept is slightly adjusted: the new series will be set in the world of sports management. It will follow four workaholic sports agents as they try to balance their hectic personal lives with the demands of their athletes, in an industry where it is becoming increasingly clear that "being a top athlete is just the beginning."

The remake is being produced by Mediawan, the French media conglomerate behind the original, through its subsidiary Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment, in collaboration with LeBron James and Maverick Carter's SpringHill Studios, and Fulwell Entertainment. SpringHill's involvement suggests that the series, like the original, will feature real sports stars playing themselves as clients of the fictional agency.

The original cast of Call My Agent!—featuring Camille Cottin, Thibault de Montalembert, Grégory Montel, and Liliane Rovère—also gained a large audience outside France thanks to its international release on Netflix. The series won an International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series in 2021 and has been adapted in more than ten countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, and India.

Additionally, Netflix is working on a follow-up film with the original cast.

Schneider, who previously worked as a head writer at Saturday Night Live, is currently serving as a co-executive producer on HBO’s new comedy series The Chair Company by Tim Robinson.
