Second Doctor Who companion cast for second season

Doctor Who has cast an actress as the Doctor's new companion, alongside current companion Ruby Sunday.
Varada Sethu has been cast in the role in season two. The series is currently in production and will debut on Disney+ and the BBC in the United Kingdom in 2025.

“I feel like the luckiest person in the world,” shared Sethu in a statement (pictured, right). “It is such an honor to be a part of the Whoniverse, and I’m so grateful to the whole Doctor Who family – because that is what they are – for welcoming me with open arms and making me feel so at home. I couldn’t ask for a better team than Ncuti and Millie to be on this adventure with. This is SO much fun!”

Recently, Sethu played the role of Cinta Kaz in the Disney+ Original series Andor. Her other series roles include Sky One/Cinemax series Strike Back and Prime Video's Hanna.

“I first worked with Varada on a BBC production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and it’s a joy to welcome her on board the TARDIS. Right now in the studio, shooting for 2025, we’ve got Ncuti, Millie and Varada fighting side by side–we need all three because the stakes are higher than ever,” exclaimed Russell T Davies, showrunner, executive producer and writer.

The new Doctor Who season premieres Friday, May 10 at 7 p.m. on Disney+ with The Church on Ruby Road, which aired last December, and two brand new episodes. In Britain, the series will begin streaming on BBC iPlayer at midnight on May 11, before airing on BBC One later that day.

New episodes will then air weekly on Fridays on Disney+, where available, and on Saturdays on the BBC and BBC iPlayer in the UK.

In addition to Davies, Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter are also producing. Doctor Who is produced by Bad Wolf, with BBC Studios for Disney Branded Television and BBC.

I'm surprised there is a second season of this. I've seen them all from 2005 and some of the original series, but this doesn't look like Doctor Who anymore. The acting is poor, especially from Millie Gibson. It's a lot of waffling without the surprisingly plausible solutions from before. The series seems to have been adapted for the American market and has therefore become woke and superficial. I probably won't watch any further this season.
