Dood Spoor - First episode

Ed Bex in Dood Spoor is a man who, by tasting, can see what has happened to what he tastes in the past hours and days.
You have just eaten or you are planning to eat a meal. Then close this review and wait until you are sure that your stomach is strong enough to endure Dood Spoor. Dood Spoor is all about food, or rather, about tasting.

Ed Bex (Peter Van den Begin) is blessed with an exceptional eating disorder. When he puts something in his mouth, he gets to see what happened to it. Imagine taking a croquette sandwich from the wall, taking a bite and then watching the cow being slaughtered, the meat being transported to the factory and ultimately ending up in your croquette.

So Bex sees all that when he takes a bite. He uses this gift to reconstruct the last hours of suddenly deceased people. His company De Laatste Groet is flourishing as a result. When he reconstructs the last hours of a coroner's mother and she becomes intrigued by Bex, the dolls start dancing.

Imagine taking a croquette sandwich from the wall, taking a bite and then seeing how the cow is slaughtered, the meat sent to the factory and rolled into your croquette.

The doctor suggests to a police inspector that Bex be involved in a murder investigation. Of course, customers are not supposed to know how Bex gets his information, so he always has to find a way to taste something without those around him noticing. Whether it's a toothbrush or the toe of a corpse, anything can help Bex bring the case to a successful conclusion.

That creates the kind of dark humor that characterizes this series. It all has to get going a bit after that first episode, because Bex's appointment in the murder investigation also heralds the end of the episode.

With Peter Van den Begin, the makers have cast the perfect actor for the role of Bex. He portrays the character perfectly by giving him a kind of nonchalance. Bex also has a family, with a woman who is pregnant, but Van den Begin still demands all the attention without forcing it in any way. There are those actors and actresses who make a difference simply by their appearance in a series and unintentionally put everyone else in the shadows.

After the first episode of Dood Spoor we can conclude that this is another gem from the makers of Clan and Tabula Rasa. We're almost certain the sequel won't disappoint either.

In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
