Dune: The Sisterhood will resume production after a November start, leading to a hiatus that was planned all along, a source says. The series also lost director Johan Renck, creator and pilot writer Diane Ademu-John (as co-showrunner), and actresses Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma earlier this year, though the departures were unrelated. Olivia Williams (The Crown) has reprised Henderson's role as Tula Harkonnen, with Jodhi May (The Witcher) replacing Varma as Natalya and Anna Foerster (Westworld) replacing Renck as multiple episode director. Co-produced by Max and Legendary Television, the series now has Alison Schapker (Altered Carbon) as sole showrunner.
Dune: The Sisterhood is set in the sci-fi universe of Frank Herbert's Dune, recently rebooted by filmmaker Denis Villeneuve for two films directed by Timothée Chalamet (including one due out this fall).
Dune: The Sisterhood is also based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Set 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides, it follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they fight against forces that threaten the future of humanity, founding the legendary cult known as the Bene Gesserit.
The series also stars Emily Watson (Chernobyl), Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (Knightfall), Shalom Brune Franklin (The Tourist), Faoileann Cunningham (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Aoife Hinds (Normal People), Chloe Lea (Foundation (2021) )), Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Mark Strong (Temple), Jade Anouka (His Dark Materials) and Chris Mason (Broadchurch).
Executive producers are Ademu-John, Schapker, Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron, Mark Tobey and Jordan Goldberg, as well as Brian Herbert and starring Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert on behalf of Frank Herbert's estate. Kevin J. Anderson is co-producer.
