Season 5 of Emily in Paris begins production, but one actor is not returning

Netflix has announced that production on season five will begin in May — first in Rome and then in Paris — for a 2025 release, and has confirmed the returning cast for the new installment.
The cast list includes season three regulars Lily Collins (Emily Cooper), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie Grateau), Ashley Park (Mindy Chen), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), and William Abadie (Antoine Lambert), as well as Lucien Laviscount as Emily’s ex-boyfriend Alfie, who will be back full-time next season, Lucas Bravo as Emily’s OG flame Gabriel, and Eugenio Franceschini (Marcello) who was introduced as a new recurring character in season four. There’s no word yet on new addition Thalia Besson (Genevieve), who could also be joining them.

The list of returning players suggests that Franceschini, whose Italian heir Marcello had a romance with Emily at the end of season four, may have been promoted to a series regular. Netflix declined to reveal the status of the returning cast, other than to say that they will all appear in multiple episodes.

Missing from the list of recurring characters is Camille Razat (pictured). She had a regular role for the first four seasons as Camille, Emily's former girlfriend and chief rival for Gabriel's heart. This is not surprising, as Camille packed up and left towards the end of season four after a final attempt to enter into a relationship with Gabriel under false pretenses, feigning a pregnancy.

When sources asked in September at the time of season four's release whether Alfie and Camille were both out of the picture, Emily in Paris creator Darren Star said: "Not necessarily. I mean, people come and go from someone's life on shows for a period of time, but that doesn't mean they're off the grid."

It’s unclear whether Alfie is coming back for work, love, or both. His boss Antoine is also returning next season, and the last time we saw Alfie, he had left Emily for a new girlfriend, though Emily in Paris is known for keeping on-again, off-again relationships going.

Questions about Bravo's return for season five began swirling in October when the actor publicly admitted that he wasn't sure if he wanted to continue. He admitted that he was feeling "frustrated" and that playing Gabriel "wasn't fun anymore" because the character was "slowly turning into guacamole."

American series usually have permanent cast members with multi-year contracts, but they don’t have options on French actors like Bravo, so he had to sign to return. At the time, talks with the actor had already started and were moving in a positive direction.

Filming will go very quickly, as Netflix has confirmed that season five, as announced in January, will be aired this year.
