English Teacher renewed for a second season

English Teacher renewed for a second season

FX has renewed English Teacher, the comedy series created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez.
Alvarez plays Evan Marquez, a high school teacher in Austin, Texas, who often finds himself at the intersection of the personal, professional and political aspects of working in a high school. In the first season, Evan navigates his relationships, his students, and his colleagues as he tries to answer the question: Can you really be yourself at work?

English Teacher

English Teacher was one of the most critically acclaimed new series of 2024 and we are grateful to the producers, writers, cast, directors and crew for the series' creative excellence,” said president Nick Grad. "We are looking forward to the new season."

Season two is scheduled for release later this year and will consist of ten episodes. The cast also includes Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colantoni, Sean Patton and Carmen Christopher.

The first season of the comedy series was marked by good reviews and nominations from Critics Choice, the Film Independent Spirit Awards and the WGA.

The renewal for English Teacher comes about two months after allegations of sexual assault against Alvarez by Jon Ebeling, who worked with Alvarez on a web series titled The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo in the mid-2010s. As detailed in a Vulture story, Ebeling alleged that Alvarez assaulted him during the filming of the series; Alvarez, through his attorney, denied the claims.

Following the publication of the Vulture story, FX said in a statement: "We have reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the launch of the series. Mr. Ebeling never contacted us. We have no further comment at this time."
