Euphoria shares first photo for season three

The long-delayed drama has started filming its next season.
HBO says production has begun on the drama series and shared a first photo of the season, showing Zendaya's Rue looking over her shoulder in a dim room. HBO also shared the photo on its social channels, with the short message "Euphoria season 3 is in production."

The start of filming for the series comes three years after season two kicked off on HBO and is more or less in line with the cable network's promise last summer that filming would begin in January.

The reasons for Euphoria's unusually long hiatus are numerous and range from aligning the schedules of its in-demand cast to creator and showrunner Sam Levinson's work on HBO's failed The Idol in the interim. As The Hollywood Reporter described in an article last year, Zendaya and Levinson's relationship has cooled during the long hiatus.

The core cast of Euphoria, including Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Colman Domingo, will return for the eight-episode third season, but Storm Reid will not. Zendaya said in a podcast interview in October that the season will feature a time jump that takes the show's younger characters out of high school.

No start date for season three has been announced yet.

One of HBO's other big series also shared a production update this weekend. At a fan convention in Orlando, House of the Dragon's Matt Smith and Fabien Frankel said they are already in full production of season three (filming started last month).
