Euphoria gives first look at time jump in season three

The characters of Euphoria have clearly grown up, but not everyone is equally successful in getting their life in order after high school.
HBO has surprisingly shared the first images of season three, showcasing how the main cast looks after a five-year time jump. The new season will premiere in April 2026 and picks up where season two left off, but in a completely new life phase: that of young adults.

According to creator Sam Levinson, season three revolves around the moment when the characters are no longer protected by the safety net of school. He emphasizes that returning to high school was never an option and that jumping five years ahead felt logical, as the characters would have left their student lives behind if they had studied.

Rue, played by Zendaya, finds herself outside the United States this season. She has moved to Mexico and is in deep trouble: she owes a debt to drug dealer Laurie, once again played by Martha Kelly, and is trying to pay it off in creative - and dangerous - ways.

Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) are now engaged and will marry later in the season. However, Cassie is far from carefree; she has become addicted to social media and struggles with jealousy over the seemingly perfect lives of her former classmates, while living in the suburbs with a surprisingly domesticated Nate.

Jules (Hunter Schafer) is studying at an art academy and is uncertain about a future as a painter while trying to avoid responsibility as much as possible. Maddie (Alexa Demie) works at a talent agency in Hollywood for a manager, combined with various side gigs. Lexi (Maude Apatow) has become an assistant to a showrunner, a role played by Sharon Stone, who has joined the cast.

Season three also introduces a number of new cast members, including Danielle Deadwyler, Eli Roth, Natasha Lyonne, Rosalía, Marshawn Lynch, Sam Trammell, and Asante Blackk.

Meanwhile, familiar faces are returning, such as Eric Dane, Chloe Cherry, Dominic Fike, Nika King, and Colman Domingo. Absent this season are Storm Reid, Austin Abrams, and Javon Walton. Angus Cloud, who played the popular Fezco, passed away in July 2023.

The return of Euphoria has been awaited for more than four years since the airing of season two in 2022. This long hiatus had multiple causes, including the busy schedules of the now highly sought-after cast, Levinson's work on the HBO series The Idol, and behind-the-scenes tensions, including a strained working relationship between Levinson and Zendaya.

The series originally started in 2018 and continues with this new season to focus on raw, confronting stories about growing up, identity, and self-destruction.
