Extraordinary - Season 1
Have you, like me, ever fantasized about having a superpower? In the world of Extraordinary, people don't have to fantasize about that, because everyone has a superpower. Or well, everyone except for Jen.
While most people receive a superpower as a gift on their 18th birthday, Jen (Mairead Tyers) still hasn't received it at age 25. This makes her insecure, frustrated and jealous. She tries to navigate a world full of people who can fly, turn back time, have super strength or have a butt that functions as a 3d printer (yeah, for real!). Jen decides it's time to finally discover her superpower. There is a clinic that helps late bloomers, but of course, it’s super expensive and Jen can't afford it. Luckily, the internet is full of well-intentioned tips and advice on how to discover your superpower later in life. Jen and her roommates Carrie (Sofia Oxenham) and Kash (Bilal Hasna) decide to try out some of these tips, which makes for some funny (although Jen probably thinks otherwise) moments.
At some point, the three housemates get an extra guest. When Jen finds a stray cat on her doorstep, she decides to take it home. However, she soon finds out that this cat, which she calls Jizzlord (Luke Rollason), is not just any cat. The relationship between Jen and Jizzlord is hilarious, a bit awkward, but also incredibly sweet. They get closer and closer, but an event at the end of the season may throw a spanner in the works.
Jen's feelings are very relatable. She feels like a loser who doesn't belong because she feels powerless in a world full of superpowers. The fear of not fitting in and the uncertainty of whether you are good enough is something everyone feels sometimes. But you know, having a superpower is not everything in life. We see that even those with superpowers struggle with relationship problems, feel useless, or fear that the only thing interesting about them is their power.
It's refreshing to watch a tv show where having superpowers doesn't mean the same thing as being a superhero or supervillain. The relatable and comical situations, the charismatic characters and the great soundtrack make Extraordinary a series that comedy lovers will binge with ease!
The first season of Extraordinary consists of eight episodes and can be seen on Disney+ and Hulu. A second season has already been confirmed.

About author, Sharon Vermeesch
"Be careful not to get square eyes," Sharon has been told since childhood. Watching television shows for hours on end is nothing new to her. Sharon can completely lose herself in good storylines, she cries along with her favorite characters and dreams completely new episodes at night. Also, she knows all the latest news about actors, castings, cancellations / renewals and gossip ? After studying Journalism, Sharon chose the financially stable corporate job, but after craving some more creativity, she handed in her notice. 2023 has started for her without a job, but with a lot of dreams and time to figure out her next step. Oh and she is also writing a tvshow. You can watch this on one of the major streaming services next year (she hopes).
