Ferry: De Serie (further referred to as Ferry: The Series) is a wonderful prequel that completes the Undercover chapter. Please note: This review may contain spoilers if you have not yet seen the series Undercover (completely).
Ferry: The series can also be called Undercover season 0. The series forms a bridge between Ferry - the film - and the first season of Undercover. As a reminder: in Undercover, agents Bob Lemmens and Kim De Rooij go undercover to entrap Ferry Bouman, at that time a powerful but elusive drug lord. Ferry -the film- ends with Ferry meeting Danielle and his decision to break with the Amsterdam underworld.
At the start of Ferry: The Series, Arie Tack rules over the XTC trade in the Belgian-Dutch border area. Ferry himself tries to sell his pills at fairs, with little success. When the police roll up Tack's laboratory, Ferry sees his opportunity to take over his business. Of course, Tack will not let that happen without a fight.
Particularly nice for fans of Undercover is that a large number of characters from the first series reprise their roles in this prequel. And especially those who did not survive the first series: Kevin Jansens as the dorky Jurgen van Kamp and Raymond Thiry as John Zwart.
The outcome of the power struggle is known, as we know that Ferry will later become the king of XTC producers. To keep up the tension, we learn that Danielle is pregnant, although she has no children in Undercover. A new character is introduced: Marco (Koen De Graeve), a childhood friend of Ferry, who is not present in Undercover. This way, as a viewer, you are still curious about what will happen next.
Ferry: The Series is never boring, the series has a high pace, lots of action and alternates black humor, violence and drama. Frank Lammers is once again in good form as the charming courageous guy, who does not shy away from violence and kills corpses when necessary. But who is also madly in love with his wife Danielle (Elise Schaap). Her character evolves from a naive hairdresser to a woman who realizes that her husband's actions are not without consequences and can cause serious damage. We also get a look at Danielle's traumatic past.
This is once again a delight for the fans and the only regret is that there will not be a second season. Netflix has already announced that another film would be released, which will take place after the final season of Undercover. Ferry has lost everything and leads a retired life.
