BBC comedy series Fleabag cancelled

Fleabag is a British comedy series from the BBC Three channel. Two seasons were released, each had six episodes. The series finale aired on the BBC in April 2019.

Fleabag is written by Phoebe Waller Bridge, who also plays the lead role herself. Last year, Fleabag won six Emmys and tells the story about the turbulent love life of Fleabag. Freely translated, Fleabag means "slob", but nowhere is it called that: a conscious choice to emphasize the mystery of her character.

Fleabag is a sex addict in her twenties who lives in London and watches porn and drags one man after another into bed as she has nothing better to do. She struggles with the loss of her deceased mother, her emotionally absent father (played by Bill Paterson) and the fact that her best friend has committed suicide. In addition, she runs an unsuccessful cafe and has difficulty getting along with her stepmother (a role by Olivia Colman). This leads to a series of uncomfortable and bizarre situations that are reinforced by the fact that it is aimed directly at the viewer.

On Sunday evening, January 5, Fleabag received two Golden Globes: the series was chosen as the best comedy series and protagonist Phoebe Waller Bridge received a Golden Globe for best actress. At the ceremony, she again stated that the series will not be continued, despite the enormous success. "I haven’t changed my mind about season 3. These awards shows are just beautiful goodbyes.." She didn't confirm rumors that she is working on a feature film as a follow-up.
