Fubar starring Arnold Schwarzenegger canceled after two seasons

Netflix has decided not to make a third season of Fubar, the espionage action series starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The decision to cancel Fubar came a month and a half after the second season launched. Despite initially high expectations—fueled by Arnold Schwarzenegger's global appeal—the new season got off to a surprisingly weak start.

While the first season earned approximately 11 million views in its opening weekend upon its premiere in May 2023, season two only managed 2.2 million views between Thursday and Sunday. The following week, the series reached seventh place in the English-language Netflix Top 10 with 3.3 million views, after which its viewership further declined to 1.8 million in week three. After that, the series disappeared completely from the Top 10.

There was a gap of more than two years between the two seasons, a hiatus that likely negatively impacted audience engagement. During that time, Monica Barbaro, co-star of Fubar, was nominated for an Oscar for her role in A Complete Unknown.

In season two, Carrie-Anne Moss appeared as Greta Nelso, a former East German spy with a passionate history with Luke Brunner, Schwarzenegger's CIA character. The plot continued to revolve around Brunner, who, just before retirement, discovers his daughter is also working for the CIA, forcing him reluctantly back into the field for one final mission.

While Netflix has already renewed several series for 2025, such as the second season of the limited series UNTAMED, the third season of the comedy series Tires and new seasons of the romantic drama series Ransom Canyon and Virgin River (the latter even up to and including season eight), Fubar now joins a select list of canceled series.

Earlier this year, the streamer also canceled the second season of the action series The Recruit and the first seasons of Pulse and The Residence. Despite these canceled series, the majority of Netflix's content strategy remains focused on continuity and expansion of successful formats.
