Fubar - Season 2

Fubar season 2 is a comedic action series by Nick Santora starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The first season of Fubar ended with a real cliffhanger where Luke Brunner (Arnold Schwarzenegger), along with his team and associates, had to go into hiding at a secret location. The entire group is forced to wait in the same house until the coast is clear. In short, their goal is to do nothing for a while.

After some time, Luke is called to secretly meet with their boss, Dot (Barbara Eve Harris). There is new information he needs to know. Upon arriving at the agreed location, he learns that a new dangerous villain named Dante Cress is on the rise. Coded messages have been intercepted that could lead to him. It's up to Luke and his team to track him down. When Luke wants to return home after the briefing, an attack takes place. Dot loses her life, leaving only a cryptic message as a clue, forcing the team to figure out what's going on and try to catch this mysterious Dante Cress. That's the beginning of season two.

The first season of Fubar was quite a mediocre mix of comedy and action. Sometimes fun, but often chaotic and nonchalant in tone. This second season is somewhat the same but... a lot worse.

Where do I start? Take just the first scene. The team is supposed to stay inside at all costs and keep quiet for their own safety. Yet the very first thing we see after the intro is Emma (Monica Barbaro) happily playing paintball with other people outdoors. Luke confronts her about it, and she nonchalantly responds that she's just bored and has the right to go outside. Well... okay then.

This example says it all about the entire second season. There is simply no consistent logic, and it's really unbearable to watch. Fubar wants to mix a sort of serious spy series with The Office-like humor. It messes this up even more than in the first season. It absolutely doesn't work, and it becomes cringier as the series progresses.

The so-called 'very best' CIA team of Luke Brunner consists of a group of childish, nonchalant, and thoughtless individuals who are also easily misled. The more the series tries to show how 'good' they are, the less credible it becomes. It doesn't help that they operate most of the time from their cozy 'secret' location, often lounging in comfortable outfits with a cup of coffee. No one seems to experience any stress or urgency. Sorry, but this doesn't build any tension at all.

The characters of Carter (Jay Baruchel) and Donnie (Andy Buckley) are completely useless throughout the series. They wander around the house, complaining and bumbling, serving occasionally as comic relief. It's pathetic how they stumble from one embarrassing situation to another to be further humiliated by the rest. Surprisingly, these two experience an adventure halfway through the series that is far more interesting than the entire adventure of the CIA team combined.

I'm not exaggerating when I say these are probably the best moments of the season. Even the well-known actress Carrie-Anne Moss, who plays the role of the spy Greta, adds no value. She only makes the plot more confusing and useless than it already was.

This series should have just been a full satire. The attempts to make the viewer take the story and characters so 'au serious' are truly 'next level cringe'. It's a shame because it could have been a fun satire like The Naked Gun or Hot Shots. Then, the creators would have just needed to see the hilarity in it.

Actually, this series should have just been a complete satire.

Yes, I'm not sugarcoating it. It was terrible to struggle through these eight episodes. And honestly, I watched the last episodes on a sort of autopilot because my brain couldn't handle it anymore. Judging by recent articles, there won't (rightfully) be a new season of Fubar. It's certainly one of the worst series I've seen this past year. Believe me, you won't miss anything with this season.

The series deserves a dismal 4.

Sorry Arnold! But you deserve better too!

I completely agree. And impressive that you stuck with it all the way through the second season. I stopped after the second episode. I was absolutely fed up with the "comedian" who plays Roo. And indeed, the rest of the team were also subpar. I still held out hope that Carrie-Ann Moss would bring something good, but I quickly lost that illusion.
A 4 is actually still generous, but okay, thanks for the effort.

I really think it's a shame, because we've seen that Schwarzenegger can do comedy in films like Twins and True Lies. But the material he had to work with was truly awful.

Thank you! Yes, Schwarzenegger can be quite funny with the right direction, but that's the point. The direction and script are so bad that none of the actors can make anything of it.

Haha yes, after the first episode I also thought something like ouch, this is going to be hell haha but I still watched it.

I forgot to mention the actor who played Chips in the review. He was actually one of the more striking/better characters. But indeed, none of the actors could save this series.
