The hit show ‘Game of Thrones’ has been renewed with a fifth and sixth season. Michael Lombarbo (president of HBO programming) announced the news today. It didn’t come as a big surprise. Not just because of the many fans, but also because of the ratings record that the first episode of the fourth season hit last Sunday.
A staggering amount of 6.6 million viewers watched this episode. Excipio (a company specialized in online piracy) also announced that the episode was downloaded 1.17 million times within 24 hours. That’s also a record.
It was also announced that show runners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff and their team will continue working on the series. Though not much else is known, the storylines of books four and five from the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series by George R.R. Martin will probably be used for these seasons.
Season five will probably premiere in April 2015.
