Geek Girl - First episode
Geek Girl is a delightful new teen drama set in a high school. The outsider in the leading role with her two separate best friends and an arch enemy with her supporters.Geek Girl is a new series on Netflix based on the books by Holly Smale. The series revolves around the clumsy teenager Harriet Manners. She's awkward, trips over her own feet, and is the least popular teen at her school. But that doesn't stop Harriet from being herself. When she and her class win a trip to London Fashion Week, she and her best friend Nat get on the bus with her classmates.
Her best friend desperately wants to be discovered by the model scouts, but all Harriet wants is to survive the day without any problems. Unfortunately, the day does not go as planned and with her clumsiness and interesting appearance she attracts the attention of model scouts Wilbur and Betty. Many viewers will certainly recognize the main character. In Geek Girl, Harriet Manners is played by Emily Carey from House of the Dragon.

The first episode of this new series sets the tone for the first season. A delightful new teen drama set in a high school. The outsider in the leading role with her two separate best friends and an arch enemy with her supporters. Although we have already seen many of these types of series, many young adult book fans will turn to this series. Film adaptations are a risk, they set high expectations if you loved the books. I have never read the books myself, so I went into the first episode quite neutrally and I was pleasantly surprised by this film adaptation.
Although it is not very special and resembles what is already on the market, there is a nice new twist and I definitely want to continue watching this series. I can't wait to see what choices Harriet will make and how she will tackle this challenge as an awkward teenager. The first episode demands a binge and I had to hold back a lot not to keep watching. Due to the shorter episodes, the series is also ideal for a quick watch or to simply sit down and watch in one go.
