Genius: Aretha Franklin will soon become available on Disney+

In March 2021, the delayed third season of Genius started on National Geographic. It tells the tale of the American gospel, soul and r&b singer Aretha Franklin. She passed away in 2018.

Cynthia Erivo (The Outsider (2020) photo) portrays the legendary singer, who has been placed on the number one spot of the top 100 list of best singers (m/f) of all time from the American music magazine Rolling Stone. Courtney B. Vance (Lovecraft Country) portrays Aretha's father.

This June, the third season of Genius: Aretha will be made available on Disney+. So far, the National Geographic anthology series has had two seasons. The first one revolved around Einstein and the second one featured Picasso. Now, it's time for Aretha Franklin. In Genius, we see how Franklin signed a contract with the record label Atlantic Records. Vance (photo) portrays her father, the preacher, activist and gospel singer C.L. Franklin. The third season has been written by Pulitzer winner playwright Suzan-Lori Parks. Anthony Hemingway (Unsolved) was the director. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard served as producers, just like they were for the first and second season.

In some countries, the first two seasons aren't available on Disney+. It is not yet known whether that will actually happen. The third season, however, will be made available on Disney+ around the globe on the 4th of June.
