Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage gets full-season order from CBS

It's two-for-two with CBS' new scripted series so far this fall.
Just as the network renewed drama series Matlock (2024) after two broadcasts, CBS has now secured additional episodes of the comedy series Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. The Young Sheldon spinoff has received a 'Back 9' order and will produce a full 22-episode season.

The news comes after a strong start to viewing figures for the comedy series. According to internal data from VideoAmp and Paramount+ (CBS is in a contractual dispute with Nielsen), the premiere brought in 10.6 million multiplatform viewers in its first seven days, up from the premiere episode of Young Sheldon's final season in February.

That was followed by a solid second week, with Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage down just 2.4% from its Live+Same Day premiere's linear ratings and running neck-and-neck with Matlock (2024) for the title of most-watched entertainment program on Thursday (and #2 and #3 for the week behind CBS' Tracker).

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, a multi-camera sitcom picked up last spring, is still in production and could make more episodes than its original thirteen-episode order. It will now deliver 22 episodes, a full-season order size that is becoming increasingly rare due to cuts in broadcast budgets. Matlock (2024) was originally set to premiere in 2023-24, so the first season was already finished, leaving a renewal for season two as the only viable option.

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, starring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, picks up where The Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon left off and is created and produced by Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland.

“With the resounding success of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, we were instantly on board when Chuck, Steven and Steve brought us the idea to further explore this world through Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment. “The enthusiastic audience reception has demonstrated the enormous appeal of these characters and we can’t wait to see all of the hilarious fun this season will undoubtedly deliver.”

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage follows Georgie (Jordan) and Mandy (Osment) as they raise their young family in Texas while navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenthood and marriage. Rachel Bay Jones, Will Sasso, Dougie Baldwin and Jesse Prez also star.

The series, produced by Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television for CBS, returns for its fourth episode next Thursday, airing in the 8 p.m. timeslot of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon.
